This button has a picture of a clock on it and is located to the left of the arrow buttons. Clicking on it will bring up a palette that will show you what local time zone the stack is currently set to. To select how many hours + or - GMT you are, click on the time zone number you want to set the stack to, which should hilight the number. By doing this you tell the stack what time zone you're in relative to all the other locations in the stack, so that times are accurate in other locations when you ask for them. You need only set the local time zone once; this information will not change when you quit HyperCard. You can, however, change the local time zone as many times as you like, and the change takes place immediately. Remove the palette by clicking on the close box in the upper left hand corner, as you would close a normal Mac window. You can also move the palette to wherever you want on the screen, and it will appear in the location you moved it to whenever you last pressed the Time Zone Select button. Users with large screens may want to set the palette location outside of the stack window, where they can change the settings on the fly. Quitting HyperCard will not change the palette location.
To the right of the Local Time Zone palette is the Daylight Savings Time palette. It will appear with the current stack setting. If the Mac is in the U.S. or Canada, Daylight Savings Time may be in effect, which means that all clocks are set an hour ahead of time. For the United States, this time applies from 2 a.m. on the first Sunday of April to 2 a.m. on the last Sunday of October in areas that do not specifically exempt themselves (according to Federal law). You may want to check before selecting this option. It is important when finding the correct time in an area. If you are not sure, the time in the other region that the stack reports may be off by plus or minus one hour. If Daylight Savings is not in effect in your area but is in effect in the area you want the time of, the stack will add an hour to the time reported. If Daylight Savings is in effect in your area but is not in the region you are looking for, the stack will subtract an hour. Unless specified, the stack exempts areas not in the contiguous U.S. (including Hawaii) and Arizona from Daylight Savings. The DST palette operates in the same manner as the local Time Zone palette.
If you're an international user, DST may be in effect also (it is implemented commonly in many countries during summers), and you can set the stack accordingly without any problems.
